The American Revolution

Battle at Concord Bridge

The American revolution started with the battles at Concord and Lexington in 1775. The British had attempted to confiscate arms held by the local militia, know as "Minutemen". The British were confronted by a small band of Minutemen at the bridge at Concord. It is unclear which side fired the first shot but that shot started the war.

Battle of Concord Bridge

Seige of Yorktown

The war continued for 6 years until a British army surrendered at the seige of Yorktown in Virginia in 1781. The British had been caught with their backs to the broad York River. The French had sided with the Americans and prevented the British fleet from lifting the seige. The ensuing peace negotiations lasted until 1783.
