Question Description

Q1: Identify a few different types of cybercrime and discuss what, in your opinion, is the most appropriate way to regulate those crimes.

Q2: What value is given to ‘privacy’ according to Saudi Arabia culture or legal system? Do you think the notion of privacy is universal, or that expectations of privacy vary by time, cultures, from person to person? If you believe the latter, what are the implications for international human rights standards about privacy?

Q3: Solove argues that a better metaphor for loss of privacy in the modern information society is that of Kafka’s The Trial (bureaucracy) rather than Orwell’s 1984 (obvious state surveillance). See short article on this “Kafkaesque? Big Brother? Finding the Right Literary Metaphor for Net Privacy”, New York Times, 2 February 2001 , referring to Daniel J. Solove, Privacy and Power: Computer Databases and Metaphors for Information Privacy, 53 Stan. L. Rev. 1393 (2001).

Do you agree with Solove? Why does the metaphor chosen matter?
