Please choose two of the following words from our mission statement:
entrepreneurial, innovation, collaboration, knowledge. Discuss how the two words
you have chosen have played a role in your academic and/or professional
career.(500 words maximum, double-spaced, 12-point font).What is your
immediate post-graduation goal? (Please include desired employment industries,
functions, and geographic region in your answer.)
Innovation and collaboration have been the two most critical characters that have
heavily influenced my education and personal career. 4 years ago, when I just came to
the United States, the first group assignment I participated was a presentation of
computer history. I realized that simply expressing the knowledge of each group
member would not make my lecturer happy. Therefore, we communicated and decided
that everyone should do what they used to, and we innovatively used dynamic Power
Point. Finally we got praise from our teacher and every group member got an A. Since
that, I knew only by cooperative innovation can the success be sighted.
I believe innovation could improve the business while lower the costs. When I was
an intern in the data analysis group of the Credit Card Center of China Merchants Bank,
My manager was struggling about how to connect potential customers, since for many
customers, we only know their names and work locations. As a programming enthusiast,
a new idea popped up in my mind immediately: I could use Python to automatically
generate a series of possible correct email addresses for each customer based on their
name and work location, and use the company server pins these email addresses. If an
address responds, it proves that this email address is valid. I spent a whole weekend
work on this project, and my supervisor starts an AB test. It was found that in this way,
the number of customers in Shanghai in August increased by 1.5% year-on-year (1260
people). This project inspired me to keep thinking out of the box when encountered
According to me, collaboration is another crucial personality in my life. While
working as a team, I have always take the lead on most difficult part of work and
encouraging my teammates for more communication. For instance, When I was at De
Anza College, the CSSA of each college would hold its own Chinese New Year show
until 2018. I suggested that we could cooperate with CSSA of other schools to hold
bigger shows than ever. When I was appointed as the head of the marketing teams of
three schools, I realized to make our communication effective was the most urgent task.
We are all full-time students, which means that we are not always available, so I hold
a meeting every Friday night to summarize the previous week and assign tasks for the
next week so we can choose working hours by our availability, and I will take the task
which no one pick up. I invested my time and efforts so that everyone else could do the
part they good at. As the result, my team made a huge success:not only sold 2000 tickets
within one month and also increased the subscription number of our social media by
20,000. Without our excellent collaboration, we can not have such a great achievement.
With innovation and collaboration, I have confidence to solving future problems.
There for, I am eligible to set my foot into the business analyst program and become an
outstanding individual who will soon become the stronghold of any future cooperation.
What is your immediate post-graduation goal? (Please include desired
employment industries, functions, and geographic region in your answer.)
After graduation, I want to find a BA job in Biology or the pharmaceutical industry
because I have relative experience in these fields. I want to use my knowledge and
leadership experiences which I will have in graduate school to prepare me for a bigger
role and responsibility in the future.
What are your long-term career goals?
I want to be the head of data analysts of a data-heavy corporation in North America.
I want to generate a standard operation procedure about data collection and analysis, as
well as the provision of regular reports to different executives and departments. I also
wish to work in a business analytics environment where I can use the expertise that I
have gained over time to formulate standardized and function automatics.
Why do you need a Master of Science in Business Analytics degree to achieve those
goals at this point in your life?
Business decisions rely on the ability to abstract valuable information from big
databases, Therefore the future of business will be built on data analysis and result
interpretation. I believe this project will help me to master data analysis and its
application in business, which is essential for real-world data and situation analysis in
the business field. My mathematical and economical background is too theoretical; I
need an MSBA to teach me how to apply these concepts in the real world.
Summarize a previous analytics project you have worked on. What impact did
this project have? What did you learn? Include programming languages,
statistical applications, and/or mathematical tools or concepts that you used.
My most impressive project was a big data competition, which I spent 2 months
studying more than 10 new mathematical concepts and sophisticated statistical theories
in the analysis of over one million sets of data. I used machine learning by programming
