Visualization through visual imagery (a technique for creating images, diagrams, or animations to communicate a message) has been an effective way to communicate both abstract and concrete ideas since the dawn of humanity. Therefore in the second project students are to explore this visualization technique by producing a Cardboard Relief Sculpture.
Relief is a sculptural technique where the sculpted elements remain attached to a solid background of the same material. The term relief is from the Latin verb relevo, to raise. To create a sculpture in relief is to give the impression that the sculpted material has been raised above the background plane.
2) LEARNING OUTCOME
CLO 4 Produce drawing composition and complete work compilation as portfolio.
TASK 2.1 – CARDBOARD RELIEF – Ornamentation Model
Based on your Project 1 Tile ornament drawing students are required to convert two-dimensional (2D) drawing to three- dimensional (3D) artwork by using Brown Corrugated Cardboard. The intention of this artwork is to test your understanding of drawing composition, forms & proportions in 3-dimensional design. The transformation from 2D ornamentation drawings into 3D forms using cardboard paper relief techniques to show how patterns can be manipulated and explored further into creating a new composition.
SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE & BUILT ENVIRONMENT
Cardboard Relief Sculpture.
Recycled corrugated cardboard, x-acto/ blade cutter, hot glue gun/UHU glue bottle, sand paper, pencil sets, ruler, set square, circle template, French curve, flexible curve.
Analyse the ornamentation pattern and design principles that you have applied in P1 assignment. (Extract and list down : i.e. Principles, form and geometry, pattern and motive of the ornamentation)
You are allowed to experiment, explore and justify your Ornamentation Tile design further, to correspond with the design theories and principles learnt in Design Studio 1 (AR115) – i.e Axis, symmetry, hierarchy, datum, rhythm, repetition, and transformation.
> Out of the 9 tiles produced in Project 1 (ornamentation poster design)
> Select only 3 designs (Pick the most intricate, interesting forms, best composition tiles)
> The final products consist of 9 tiles, Each Tile is = 210mm x 210mm consists of Dimensional Sculpture of corrugated cardboard
Refer to the diagrammatic instruction below to view the Final outcomes of this Project 2 Assignment.
