Determine how primary and foreign keys connect entities in a relational database.
Investigate relational database normalization.
Report data breaches through research into real-life scenarios.
Course Outcome:
IT503-3: Appraise database development standards and security issues.
Purpose
This assignment will help you to understand the basic organization of entities in a database and the various levels of normalization. You will also understand that SQL is a typical language used and find where it can be learned. A template is given for this assignment; while APA citation and referencing are required, the format is business-like.
Download and use the template here: Required Unit 4 Assignment 1 Template
Assignment Instructions and Requirements
A recent veterinary school graduate has asked you to put together a database for her new practice. While this assignment will not produce a full plan for a database, you will produce some ideas to discuss with the vet first.
Part 1: Developing Entity Tables
Develop an entity table for one kind of animal client, chosen from this list:
Dogs
Cats
Birds
Rodents
Reptiles
The top row should be your primary key. The rest of that column should be left blank. Add appropriate attributes for that kind of animal, filling in the attribute name, data type, length, and yes or no for whether or not it is required.
There must be at least 8 attributes (including the primary key). You may add rows for additional attributes if you find it necessary. Some attributes might be binary (yes/no) data types.
Part 2: Normalization
Perform research about database normalization and locate 1-2 appropriate sources for this section. Then write an explanation that your client should be able to understand, and cover the following, each in its own paragraph:
Definition of normalization and why it is important. Include an example of what could happen if a database is not normalized.
Explanation of 1NF, 2NF, and 3NF.
Explanation of Boyce-Codd normal form and a mention that there are other forms as well.
Additional parameters:
The overall length for this section must be at least 300 words.
Use paragraphing, and write in full sentences, without lists.
Cite your source(s) properly using APA rules.
Part 3: SQL Introduction
In this section and in 25-40 words, briefly explain SQL and its uses. Cite your source properly.
Then find an online tutorial for SQL. Include the full URL to the beginning page of the tutorial

Privacy Policies for Hotel Guests
The manager for Reservations Services and the company's Chief Privacy Officer have asked the Management Interns to look into a privacy problem that was recently uncovered in the Reservations Services Call Center. Your deliverable for this discussion will be a 3 to 5 paragraph briefing paper in which you summarize the privacy issues (using the information provided below) and then provide 3 to 5 suggestions for appropriate and relevant updates to the current "guest relations" privacy policy (using a competitor's policy as a starting point). Write your 3 to 5 paragraph position paper after reviewing the background information (below) and one or more of the following policies: 1. https://www.lhw.com/Privacy-Policy 2. https://www.tajhotels.com/en-in/about-taj-group/le... 3. http://www.fourseasons.com/privacy/ Background Special requests from guests are entered into the reservation database for use by front desk, concierge, housekeeping, and maintenance personnel. Food service personnel may also need to access this information in order to address special dietary needs. Guests may enter the information themselves using a web-based form or a call center operator may enter it on a guest's behalf. The Chief Privacy Officer recently became aware of a disturbing practice in Reservations Services related to the "special requests" information. Apparently, there has been an on-going contest among the call center operators for "the most outrageous guest requests." A few operators have gone so far as to pull up guest reservation entries in the database for bookings made online via the company's website." This contest is a shocking violation of guests' privacy and could seriously harm the company's reputation if the practice were to continue. An investigation into the situation revealed that (a) the call center operators were not aware of the guest relations privacy policy and (b) the current guest relations privacy policy has weak protections in place for information stored in the reservations system & bookings database. Please remember to cite your sources (APA format preferred).
