Healthcare Technology: Local, National, and Global ConsiderationsImagine that you are a public health nurse, and you and your colleagues have determined that the threat of a deadly new strain of influenza indicates a need for a mass inoculation program in your community. What public health data would have been used to determine the need for such a program? Where would you locate public health data? What data will be collected to determine the success of such a program? How might you communicate this to other communities or internationally?Student Sample: When crisis strikes in the world regarding a disease or virus outbreak such as a new deadly strain of influenza or COVID-19 who should we respond to? As a public health nurse working in the field with my colleagues who discover this information, I would need and use the CDC (center for disease control and Prevention) and WHO (World Health Organization) to help bring together a mass inoculation program for this type of issue and to communicate this information internationally. To Continue, The CDC mission and purpose are to “works 24/7 to protect America from health, safety, and security threats, both foreign and in the U.S. Whether diseases start at home or abroad, are chronic or acute, curable or preventable, human error or deliberate attack, CDC fights disease and supports communities and citizens to do the same.’’(CDC organization 2021)Moreover, Health care providers are required to report communicable disease for several reasons. "The most common reasons are to identify outbreaks and epidemics. If an unusual number of cases occur, local health authorities must investigate to control the spread of the disease. To enable preventive treatment and/or education to be provided. To help target prevention programs, identify care needs, and use scarce prevention resources" efficiently.(Communicable disease tracking & reporting). The public health data that would be collected to determine of the success of the program is the information that the CDC uses each year to estimates the burden of influenza in the U.S. CDC uses modeling to estimate the number of influenza illnesses, medical visits, flu-associated hospitalizations, and flu-associated deaths that occur in the U.S. in a given season. (Disease burden of influenza 2020)In conclusion, the use of Public Health Surveillance which is considered the backbone of public health, it provides data that is current and useful. Information that understands an epidemic threat to the public, provides early warning and describes transmission characteristics. Surveillance strategies include rapid diagnosis, screening, reporting, case management reporting, contact investigations, and the monitoring of trends.(Strategies for Disease containment 1970). Surveillance is necessary to quickly identify and respond to outbreak such as a new deadly influenza strain.Some non-medical technique I would use that is very popular in the world today is Social Media. Sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram that connects us to people all over the world would be a good method if all else fails to send out information on a deadly virus.Resources: CDC organization.
