Question Description

child observation paper.doc you must observe an actual child under 5 years old for 30 minutes.  I need you to write down on notebook paper to typing it as it happens everything that child does during that time.  You must observe a real life child to do this an not make it up.  I have to turn in the page of notes and then type up a 1 1/2 page paper based on those notes using descriptive language and relaying what they did to child developmental theories.

Human Development Weber Psy 361 Major Investigation Paper ALTERNATE OBSERVATION SEE ME IF YOU WANT TO DO THIS PROJECT!!! In this assignment, you will observe closely, record, and determine the relevance of what you’ve seen to what we’ve discussed in class. You have no tasks to give. You'll be observing everything that you see and hear. You will also want to keep track of what an adult does if there is one involved. (Get the gist of it.) Note: The note taking job in this alternative assignment is more intense than in the standard tasks. Requirements You may want to observe children under 5 years old. 1. Children 3 – 5 years old. Choose children not more than a year or two apart. 2. Babies 9 months-3 years. Choose not more than 1 year apart 3. Babies under 9 months. Try for not more than several months apart Procedures 1. Observe the children. Minimum time: ½ hour each. Conduct a careful, detailed observation. Keep track of all that the children do (and say, if they are talking.) Use the “Play script” or bulleted format that was assigned earlier in the semester. Note: With babies who don't talk yet, you'll be doing a running narrative of what you see, including interactions with adults if they occur Note: You should not be the person who's in charge of the child if you can possibly manage it. Writeup 1. Data collection: This is the notes you have taken. 2. Analyze: Look at what you’ve recorded. What has the child done that sticks out in your mind? What physical activities do you see? What kinds of attempts at language/communication? Do you see some typical Piagetian sensory-motor substage activity (for babies)? Do you see evidence of various kinds of social/emotional development? Physical development? Discuss the most interesting aspects of what you've seen in each child separately. Relate this information to theories we have discussed in class. i.e. Erikson stages, Piaget stages and/or substages, evidence of separation or stranger anxiety, language development, physical development etc. 3. Compare the children and the kinds of activities you've observed. Did you observe similar activities or characteristics? Very different ones? 4. Include your scrappy notes along with your paper
