This two-page paper, which will center on the writing of an outline, is optional. If you submit the paper you may earn up to a maximum of 2 credits toward your course grade. Papers will be graded: 0, ½, 1, 1½, or 2. The paper must be double-spaced in 12-point Calibri type on 8½x11 paper with 1-inch margins. ASSIGNED QUESTION: Compare and contrast the ways in which race and racism affected the early academic job opportunities and employment decisions of George Washington Carver (GWC) and Ernest Everett Just (EEJ). Tell who was more affected by race and racism at this early stage of his career and why. REQUIRED FORMAT: You must complete Parts I through VI of the outline. Include in your outline all the italicized headings appearing below. Limit your “Introduction” section to two sentences, one capturing the general point about academic job opportunities for the pioneering African-American research scientists and one stating your thesis. Limit your responses to all other sections of the outline to one sentence each. NOTE: You should try to write your outline in two pages. We will accept three-page outlines but we will not read beyond page 3. (Bottom-line: anything you write beyond page 3 will not be graded.)
