MATH145 Unit 3 Algebra Problem Situation Maximum Storage Area Project
Problem Situation:A construction company wishes to build a rectangular enclosure to store machinery and equipment. The site selected borders on a river that will be used as one of the sides of the rectangle. Fencing will be needed to form the other three sides. The company has 682 feet of 10-foot high chain-link fencing. The questions that follow should help you determine the dimensions of the rectangle that will produce the maximum area for the storage site. Assume that the company wishes to use all of the fencing, and that “width” refers to the measure of each of the two sides that are perpendicular to the river, and “length” refers to the measure of the side parallel to the river (see diagram). For the questions that follow, all measurement answers are to be given with the correct unit label, e.g. feet, square feet, etc. All of the questions are in the file

HU Statistics Questions
Question 1A sample of nurses with
affiliation to private hospitals (affiliation = 0) and to university
hospitals (affiliation = 1) was asked to rate their confidence in making
the right decisions based on their level of ongoing inservice
professional development. Use a Mann-Whitney U-test to determine if the
distribution of confidence in each group is the same. The file is the
first tab in “nonparametric.xlsx.” Be sure to always write the
null and alternate hypotheses, so that the decision is made in the
correct direction. Also, conduct all as two-tailed tests at α = 0.05.Question 2In
the previous item, we used the Mann-Whitney test rather than an
independent t-test. Why might we Mann-Whitney rather than the t-test?Question 3
In the third tab of the same file (nonparametric_sheets.xslx), there
are data for the selling prices of homes in a ZIP code and the square
footage of those homes. Use the Spearman rank correlation to determine
if there is a significant correlation between the home price and the
square footage.A table of Spearman rank significance values is located in the file. Question 4Why
did we not just use the Pearson correlation for the previous item? That
is, what is the Pearson correlation influenced by that the Spearman is
not?Question 5A restaurant wondered if
there was a difference in the number of refills of soda ordered by those
aged 18-24 (age = 0) and those aged 13-17 (age = 1). Use the
Mann-Whitney U-test to determine if the distribution of soda refills is
significantly different for the two groups.Question 6An
organization was attempting to determine whether there was congruence
between the rating of their hiring personnel in rating new employees
during their interview presentations. The file “Spearman 2” to determine
the Spearman rank correlation between the judges’ ratings.Question 7The following data were collected related to the number of visits to a suburban health clinic. Month Visits January 1610 February 1585 March 1649 April 1590 May 1540 June 1397 July 1410 August 1350 September 1495 October 1564 November 1602 December 1655 The
null hypothesis is that the number of visits is uniformly distributed
throughout the year. Use a chi-square goodness-of-fit test to determine
whether the null hypothesis should be rejected at α = 0.05. Interpret
the results.Question 8There are 8 job
codes in a large hospital system. The table below indicates the number
of grievances filed by members of the union by job code. Are the number
of grievances uniformly distributed at α = 0.05? Job Code Grievances 1 19 2 17 3 14 4 18 5 19 6 21 7 18 8 18 Interpret this for hospital leadership.Question 9A
research firm was interested in knowing whether income level and
location of service for procedures were independent. The following data
were provided. Clinic Hospital Private <$30,000 85 16 6 $30,000 to $49,999 102 27 13 $50,000 to $99,999 36 22 15 > $99,999 15 23 25 Use
a chi-square test of independence to determine whether income level and
service location are independent. Test the null hypothesis the service
location is independent of income at α = 0.01.Question 10Is
the preferred beverage ordered at lunch independent of the age bracket
in a hospital cafeteria? Test the null that is independent at α = 0.05. Coffee/Tea Soft Drink Other 21-34 26 95 18 35-55 41 40 20 >55 24 13 32

The AssignmentUsing Week 8 Dataset (SPSS document) from the Learning Resources area, answer the following:DataCreate a variable for Time-to-event by subtracting the start time (variable = start) from the stop time (variable = stop). Label the new variable “Time”.Produce the appropriate descriptive statistics, numerical and graphical, for the following variables:EventIntervalTxNumSizeTimeKaplan-Meier Survival Analysis (Without factor or Strata)Run a Kaplan-Meier analysis in SPSS, using Time as the Time variable and Event as the Status variable (Be sure to define the event). Do not add a factor or strata at this time.Produce a Survival Table (you do not need to submit this)Produce a plot of the survival functionWhat is the mean survival time (include confidence intervals)? What is the median survival time (include confidence intervals)? Why do you think they are so different from each other?Kaplan-Meier Survival Analysis (With Factor)Run a Kaplan-Meier analysis in SPSS, using Time as the Time variable and Event as the Status variable (Be sure to define the event). Add Tx as the factor.Test the difference between Tx groups (Compare Factor) using Log-Rank, Breslow, and Tarone-WareProduce a plot of the survival functionDescribe what the Overall Comparisons mean in terms of treatment groups and survival times.Kaplan-Meier Survival Analysis (With Strata)Run a Kaplan-Meier analysis in SPSS, using Time as the Time variable and Event as the Status variable (Be sure to define the event). Add Interval as the Strata variable.Produce a plot of the survival function for each strata. Why would you want to produce Kaplan-Meier Survival Curves after stratifying for a variable?Resources: Daniel, WW & Cross, CL. Houston Community College System Statistics Questions
Please find the practice quizzes in the attached files. if you need any other documents please let me know. thanks Last semester, a cluster of six students all submitted the same incorrect answer on one problem. Their work showed the same calculation error at an early step. So, do your own work, and do nothing to make me suspicious. Remember: a poor grade is a temporary inconvenience, but guilt is eternal. This is not intended to be a hard exam. It is meant to be somewhat challenging, but it is also meant to be informative. The data are real, and the inferences you draw are trustworthy. I intend for you to interpret every word and phrase literally. There are no trick questions. If you suspect that you have found an error, please contact me.Page 10 has a table of chi-squared critical values. It was copied and pasted directly from lecture.Pages 12–16 have tables for you to show your work calculating means, variances, and chi-square statistics. If you do not have a printer, then you can hand-write each the tables in a few minutes. I strongly recommend that you print the exam and show your work. If you use software to complete the calculations, then print your output. When the tables are filled in, use a scanner – an actual scanner or an app on your phone, such as Genius Scan to turn the pages into a PDF that you can upload and/or email.Page 17 has a table of t* critical values at the 95% confidence level. You can also use any table posted on Blackboard, shown in the lectures, or printed in a textbook. However, this table I provided has two advantages: it shows all degrees of freedom from 1 to 212, and it is precise to four decimal points.
