Question Description

Four rectangles, that are identical and are not connected to each other, are placed on the top of a desk. Each rectangle has an area of 2 square inches each. So, these 4 rectangles cover 8 square inches of the desk. Four identical rectangles are added to the group. The math club predicts that the total area of the desktop that is covered by rectangles will be doubled by the addition of the second group of rectangles. Which statement below is correct? The prediction is not correct because the second group of rectangles cannot be identical. The addition of the second group will only add half the area of the first group. The addition of the second group will more than double the original area. The prediction is correct, and the size of the area will be doubled.
