I. Introduction
A. Types of Disasters
1. Natural Disaster
a.. Hail, earthquakes, hurricanes, etc.
b. Natural disasters are those that humans cannot prevent but they can take steps to help
prepare for the disasters.
B. Environmental Disaster
1. Power blackout, Oil spills, forest fires, etc
a. Humans can contribute to environmental disasters and it could lead to thousands
of humans or animals being affected depending on the severity and the kind of
disaster.
II. Environmental Impact
A. What effect does disaster management have on environmental impact?
1. Disaster management can implement plans that will help the public in preparation for the
disasters and how or what they can do to ensure they are safe as well as their families.

A. Fundraisers
1. Ways to gather enough profit to rebuild

1. Non-Profit Organizations will ensure that people in need will continue to get help
2. Canned Goods, bottled water, etc.
V. Current Solutions With Environmental Impact
A. Man-made or Natural Disaster
1. How does a government agency respond to man-made or natural disasters?

a. Whether a disaster is man-made or a natural disaster governmental agencies
such as Fema, help by responding to disasters because of the wide impact that can
be felt across a state as well as the people.
b. Natural disasters occur everywhere in the world and in the healthcare setting
having a known and established disaster plan are essential so that people can be
protected as well as individual's health.
B. Hurricane Katrina ( 2005)
1. Flood Disaster
a. 90 % of New Orleans was flooded by Hurricane Katrina
b. The water could cause molds to grow, endotoxin levels to rise, little clean
drinking water, spoiled food, West Nile virus concerns, and many other causes for
a person to be sick (Frank, 2012).
VI. Improving State disasters
A. Comprising various departments
1. One is department of health and human service in health care facilities. There
should be some specialist who will be set aside whom their work will be to attend
to disasters when they happen and at immediate effect.

1. One state requirement is that it requires a health care provider to get state
approval first before building certain types of facilities
B. Joint Commission
1. They will help by making all the arrangements of the assets that will be
involved in disaster management, for example by providing vehicles to health
facilities.
C. Technical Assistance
1. The purpose of it is to help ensure that facilities and new services proposed by
health care providers are needed for quality patient care within a particular region
or community.
2. They have helped a lot in the state as they are the one who have enhanced good
services in health care facility (Wall,2011).
D. Laboratory Improvements
1. Those clinical laboratories that are in health facilities should be improved in a
way that they will be faster to examine a patient so as to be treated in faster way.
2. Having these improvement in the health sectors, am totally sure that disasters
will be minimized and loses that are mostly endured due to disaster will be
minimized.
VIII. Conclusion

1. Any type of disaster always cause some kind of harm or hardship on
someone or something and we should all pull together to help the environment
and protect ourselves.
