Question description

4 Short essays in philosophy

Respond to each of the following questions with a short essay. Although there are no formal length requirements for your responses, they should be long enough that you fully address the question posed and short enough that you avoid extraneous material. You are not required to provide a works cited page for essays or articles contained in your textbook, but you should attribute ideas to their authors and identify the relevant work by name. If you quote a portion of a reading verbatim, be sure to clearly attribute the quoted material to its author. If you use information from outside of our textbook, please cite your source and provide a link if possible.

1. Making explicit reference to your assigned readings to support your points, explain how contemporary race, class, and gender discrimination results in economic inequality. Please be sure to explain the nature and scope of both the discrimination and the inequality that it creates, and to describe some of the consequences of inequality. (35 points)

2. Making explicit reference to your assigned readings to support your points, explain how the law, the media, and other social structures and organizations maintain discrimination and inequality in the present day. (35 points)

3. Using relevant concepts and data from within and beyond our assigned readings and class discussions, envision a policy that you think would mitigate race, class, or gender discrimination. What is the policy, who would implement it, who would benefit, and how would they benefit? Would anyone likely object to this policy? Why? (20 points)

4) Identify something you can do personally, today, to make the world a less unequal place. (10 points)
