Communication skills are very essential in our daily activities. If one needs to be a good
communicator, he or she needs to be effective in each and every area in the communication
process that is from the sender to the receiver and also one should be contented with the various
ways of communication. (Coombs, 2014)People who are poor communicators commonly
struggle to improve their careers further than a certain point.
When analyzing my skills I used interpersonal skills self-assessment. Interpersonal skills
are referred to as the life skills we usually use every time and every day to communicate and
relate with different people either individually or in groups. The assessment involved listening
skills. In most cases, people think that they are active listeners and hence they don’t require
improving and advancing their listening skills. I compared my listening skills with other people.
I found out that I usually get bored with speakers in an easy way especially when they have
nothing funny to say. Also, I tend to interrupt speakers whenever they say something which I am
disagreeing with. Also, whenever I don’t understand something I rarely ask, instead I just keep it
to myself.
I assessed my verbal communication skills when talking to a person and I found that I
have a habit of saying what I think, without even worrying how the other individual will perceive
it. I just assume that we will work it all out later. Also, when talking to people I usually pay
attention to their use of body language.
The communication gaps that I possess include perception gap. I tend to misunderstand
what the other person is trying to mean. ...
