2. Short Essay: (1)Due by Thrusday at 10:00a.m.:(100-150words Read "Stores Lead Shoppers by the Nose", by S. Nassauer, in the Wall Street Journal,May 21, 2014 (print edition). *Post a unique sentence from the article... in quotes.... at the top of your post * Briefly explain something interesting you learned about retailing *DO NOT SUMMARIZE THE ARTICLE. DO NOT PROVIDE A LINK TO THE ARTICLE. *Do NOT go into great detailfrom the article (of course you can incorporate your experiences that are relevant). DO NOT POST long sentences from the article(post just enough to prove to me that you've read the article). (2) Due by Wednesday at 11:00a.m.(100-150words) Keep in mind that we're looking forward here. We're looking at the entire country... not just where you live. At the macro-level, what should retailers expect in 2015-6? Better, The Same OR Worse? (3) Due by Friday at 11:00a.m.(150-200words) initial question in this Thread Detail with a new subject title under my original question (i.e. deleteRE: ... and replace with the name of the retailer and your last name in the subject line) so we can easily see what each student has done.... who you've visited... what you found. An example: Men's Wearhouse- Northam Students can then post their comments easily under your name/retailer. **** THERE CAN BE NO REPEATS... i.e. no 2 students can use the same retailer. *** Second, give us an overview of what you found. Be sure you incorporate at least three ideas from this week's chapters 13 & 12 in your response. In this... and all future discussion boards, underline (one/two words ONLY from) each of your key ideas, & put the page number (e.g. pg 56) where your textbook discussed this idea. This will make it easy for us to follow what you have to say, & it will show me you're getting your money's worth with your textbook! USE THE BOOK... and find some "hidden gems! SEE BELOW... Be careful with your writing. Do NOT submit one long, unorganized paragraph. I'll glance at such a post only once.... and then I'll send it back... ungraded... and you'll need to re-submit. Good writing counts in this class.... so does correct spelling. Be careful.... if I read the same ideas with the same page numbers over and over............ it will be pretty obvious what's going on. The later posts will receive much less credit than the first posts. 3.Assignment(Due by Saturday at 10:00p.m.) 200-250words This week I want you to go into the jungle... the retail jungle... alone... without any weapons... without a guide... with absolutely no protection! PLAN TO BE f-ri-g-h-t-e-n-e-d!!! Here's the deal. ********** I want you to visit a retailer who has NEVER had any interest to you. NONE AT ALL.In fact, you've never been there before. It doesn't sell anything you think you need/want. As far as you know... you are NOTin this retailer's target market (this also applies to your children, spouse, etc.). It could be this retailer focuses on a different age group... income group... gender... stage in family life cycle.... ethnic group... or any number of other things. The point is you are NOT in their target group of customers. Perhaps you think/thought this retailer appeals to people who spend more money than you... or less money than you. Perhaps you think this retailer is a "woman's" store... or a "man's" store. Perhaps you've always thought it was for "old" people... or for "young" people.... or "rich" people... or "poor" people. You get the basic idea.... I want you to totally feel like a "fish out of water"!!! That way you can approach your task with fresh eyes......... [If it sounds like you haven't followed these instructions... there will be a penalty]. Think really hard about your choice for this Assignment. Remember: you've NEVER been in this store before... in this location or in any other location where it has a store. Do NOT use a grocery store for this assignment. How will you know if you've made a good choice for this assignment.... easy! You will feel out of place when you go there. Never mind! Your job isn't to buy anything, or to talk to anybody! Your job is to study the environment... get a "feel" for the place! ******** Here's the deal: 1) TAKE NO MONEY. no cash. no credit cards. no debit card. no ATM card. no checks. no gift certificates. not even an "temptation"... nothing... nada... non... I-O-U. Bottom line: no DO NOT TURN THIS INTO A BUYING TRIP... after all, you have no money with you! 2) GO ALONE. Your objective is to Focus. No distractions are permitted. Do not spend (any) time with a salesperson. This is NOT an assignment about having a salesperson "point out" things to you. 3) OBSERVE. Plan to spend 15-30 minutes observing. Walk around. Take a pencil & notebook to jot down anything that strikes you as worth remembering for this retail class. PAY ATTENTION TO DETAILS. If you have seen everything in 5 minutes.....you DID NOT PICK a good retailer for this assignment. 4) What should you look for?well, how does the environment "feel" to you? is it a "friendly" place? a "snobby" place? a laid-back place? a fun place? does it feel energetic or lethargic in there? are prices easy to find? are products easy to find? is it well organized? how is it arranged? is it a "helpful" place? a frustrating place? do the salespeople seem to be energetic, or bored? informed, or shall we say... uh... useless!? are there in-store promotions? does it seem too "promotional"? is it cluttered? does it look "empty"? what's the traffic flow like? how's the lighting... the music... the colors... the noise? where was this retailer... a stand-alone, in a shopping center, in a mall... what were its neighbors like? you know... little tidbits like that... (Take this list with you to remind you what to look for... and anything else from your textbook that might be interesting to study) 5) What was your OVERALL IMPRESSION? 6) Tell us whatday and what time you visited this retailer. 7) Incorporateat least 3 underlined textbook ideas in your post (with page number).... and please do NOT submit one long unorganized paragraph. Good writing counts in this class! In fact, if what you submit is poorly written, and unedited.... and desperately needs proofreading... I'll send it back for more careful work. Then there will be a penalty. Remember that poor, sloppy writing makes you sound "not Pick one of the types of information below and discuss which form of visual would you use? Explain your decision.(100-150words) Record of annual sales for Kenyon Company for the past 20 years. Comparison of Kenyon Company sales, by product, for this year and last year. Monthly production of the automobile industry in units.
