Sofia University Decision Appraisal Report Paper
Your second Decision Appraisal Report should build on your main decision you used for the prior reports, or a new decision if you can't work with that decision anymore. You can review the detailed instructions on how to do a Decision Appraisal Report in this document: Decision Amplification and Appraisal.pdfAnd review an example here:Decision Appraisal Graph ExamplesThese documents summarize a lot of the information we discussed in class on how to do a decision appraisal. Please read them carefully and follow the instructions. Your responses should be thorough, thoughtful, and meaningful, since this will be the basis for modeling your decision as part of your learning experience in this class. SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONSDecision Appraisal Report 2 should build on your prior reports, and should include the answers to the original questions about your decision, i.e., a description of your decision including the short title of the decision, the alternatives, the value criteria you will use to evaluate the outcome, the main pieces of information, and key aspects of the process (see). Report number 2 should also include an Influence Diagram (ID) depicting your decision (as described in the document Dialogues for Framing Decisions.pdf and the slides in section 2.1, as well as numerous examples in your readings from Decision Analysis for the Professional; Be sure your ID is accompanied by distribution trees, definitions of all nodes, and a logical description explaining the story told in the diagram. Be sure to include strong conclusions identifying next-steps needed to move the decision process forward in the direction of 100% on all spokes, as described in the document Decision Amplification and Appraisal.pdf Include a current Appraisal using the Decision Wheel. You should also include your prior Decision Wheel appraisal graph (0% to 100%) as an appendix to the report, for comparison to your current graph. Please upload your file in .pdf format so I can read it in the browser and grader on Canvas without downloading. Please put your Full Name and the title "Appraisal Report 2" in the filename of the document. Grammar, spelling and punctuation are not the focus of this assessment, and will be a concern only if they are distracting or cause confusion. Writing should be fluid, engaging, sincere, and also well organized.20.0 ptsTotal Points: 100.0Decision Appraisal Graph ExamplesWe do not appraise the quality of the decision, but the effectiveness of the inquiry on the topics of the Decision Wheel, up to the time of the appraisal. Fully effective inquiry means all the necessary questions have been asked, and the answers are complete, credible, and feel right in the heart and soul. We can rate the effectiveness of the inquiry for each topic, from 0% to 100%, and graph the results on each “spoke” of the decision wheel, with 0% at the center, and 100% on the circumference of the wheel. If all topics of inquiry are rated at 100% effective, then the graph on the wheel will be full and round – “ready to roll”. The strength of the “hub,” or Integration Process, is assessed separately. In addition to the graph, an appraisal includes an explicit explanation/rational for the rating corresponding to each “spoke”, as well as the hub, or “Integration Process” (which addresses mindfulness and need for further contemplation). If there is a decision team or coach, each involved person can make separate ratings privately, and then compare their separate ratings with each other. Explaining the rationale for the ratings and addressing inconsistencies generates insights and effectively focuses communication. In the absence of major frame shifts, a trend toward completion and readiness to decide should be observed as the appraisal process is periodically repeated – the graph will get rounder over time, with work. First Graph Final GraphComparison of these two decision appraisal graphs reflects progress toward balance and high quality of inquiry.Example appraisal graphs are shown above. These are the first and last of four graphs made by a student appraising her household’s progress in making a decision regarding how to utilize a spare room. This decision involved economic considerations, as well as deep value issues for the group. This student employed contemplation, as well as research and communication, in her decision process. The movement toward clarity of action is indicated by the balance and high quality of the inquiry in the final graph, evident as the graph becomes more round and approaches a full circle. Note this student committed to a course of action before all the spokes reaches a 100% rating. This is appropriate, since 100% is an ideal that could take too long to reach. For each spoke if the wheel, the appraisal report also contained a description of current knowledge and assumptions about that topic, as well as unanswered questions, and any additional relevant comments (these are not shown in this example, but they are a critical part of the appraisal). The final component of the Decision Appraisal is the identification of next steps the decision maker can take to move toward sufficient quality ratings on all aspects, for example, hard side (research & analysis), soft side (communication and imagination), or deep center (contemplation and integration). When the quality of inquiry is sufficient in all respects, the decision maker has achieved clarity of action, and the decision is made – if not, the weakness is identified, and next steps are considered.
