This week...... instead of a discussion board...... you'll be submitting your work from the above activity through the Assignments section right here. This is your only assignment this week. ******* It must be submitted/attached as a single Word file, through this page. ..... I do NOT accept emailed attachments for any reason, so don't even ask.... also, you can NOTsimply type in your assignment in Bb in the student comment area. Do NOT submit through the d.b. These instructions also apply to all future assignments. Your submission MUST be sent as a Word file.... and I must be able to open it when I go to grade it. If I can't open it, it's as if you didn't turn it in (sort of like you turned it in in the wrong classroom, or to the wrong professor!)... and you'll receive no credit. It can be up to 3 typed pages, but no longer (please don't use a title page). ***** PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT ONE LONG SINGLE-SPACED PARAGRAPH. If I cannot easily read your work, you'll be penalized. Double spacing is much easier for me to read, but if you choose to single space, at least use lots of paragraphs, with space in between. Of course, paragraphs allow you to succinctly express multiple ideas easily. You should very carefully organize your work so that I can easily follow what you have to say. If there are excessive typos, misspellings, poor grammar......... you will be penalized. Failure to follow these simple instructions will result in "limited credit" for the week. oh, no! more retail "observation"... This time I'd like you to go to a shopping center/mall and analyze the tenant mix: 1) Do the tenants appear to complement one another? 2) What changes would you make in the tenant mix to increase the overall health of the center? 3) What kind of traffic (e.g. see pg 294) does this shopping center have? 4) What kind of neighbors surround the site? *** (Please do NOT choose a 5-8 small store (small) strip shopping center for this assignment... you will NOT learn anything very substantive... you'll completely waste this assignment, and the whole point for doing it. Remember that you'll get out of the class in proportion to what you put into it.) MOST IMPORTANTLY, do NOT simply "write this up" from memory. YOU NEED TO MAKE A SPECIFIC, purposeful VISIT for this assignment. LEAVE YOUR MONEY AT HOME. Your job is to study this shopping area, without any intention to buy anything. *** Make sure you identify where this shopping center/mall is located, about how many stores are in it, & the size of the town/city (i.e. small, medium, large). Please tell me the day/time you visited this shopping area. *** oh, no! now some analysis... Get out your notebook, do some research, and analyze the demand potential for this shopping center... using the list of components on page 281. You'll need more than opinion to do this part of the assignment... you'll need facts! You are assuming the role of a market researcher, who requires numerical facts to make a decision. What conclusions can you make on the basis of your investigation? ****** (If you simply do this based on your "memory" without actually visiting the center for study... you're completely wasting this assignment. Hint: it is usually rather obvious when I read your work if you haven't taken some time to go look at this shopping center carefully and objectively. Again, please do not waste these learning experiences.) *** There are two (2) parts to this activity: 1) study the shopping center, + 2) do some market research analysis. ANY prudent investors require this market research before they will invest a dime........ your, and my, "opinions" are absolutely irrelevant! We need numerical facts.
