Variables Measurement and SPSS Statistical Analysis Summary
Quantitative
research consists of testing and understanding relationships between
variables. Researchers construct these variables as measurable
expressions of social phenomena. Modern statistics provides you with a
host of resources to answer questions, but each statistical test has a
set of assumptions regarding the measurement of the variables. It is
therefore important to understand how variables are measured because
their measurement will influence the type of analytic tools available to
you.SPSS is a statistical software program that
allows you to enter these variables into a spreadsheet format and record
the measurements from a sample. Additionally, SPSS allows you to
perform statistical analysis. Before launching into your analyses,
though, it is important to understand how the variables are measured.
That understanding will help you interpret the SPSS output. In
this week’s Discussion, you considered topics with social change
implications. For this Assignment, you will examine data to analyze
independent and dependent variables, determine how they are measured,
and decipher whether a social change question can be answered and the
implications for such change.Write a 2-page summary and include the following:A description of what the each of the variables measure.A description of the unit of analysis.A description and explanation of the levels of measurement for each variable (i.e., nominal, ordinal, interval, ratio).Explain
how you might conceive these variables to be used to answer a social
change question. What might be the implications for social change?

Pittsburgh Pirates Dataset in SPSS
Perform a multiple linear regression on the Pittsburgh Pirates Dataset in SPSS (you should use the dataset provided here and should not create any new variables in SPSS). Try to select the variables that you think will affect the attendance and that make sense. The goal of the regression is to get the adjusted R Square as high as possible (but be careful not to run into multicollinearity issues). Run various linear regressions and compare the adjusted R Squares with each other. Report the results for the model with the highest R Square.Prepare a two-page report in which you report the "coefficients" table that SPSS provides in the output and the "model summary" table which includes the adjusted R Square. Report which steps you have taken to arrive at the final results. Did you run into any problems and/or challenges? Report them! If you excluded certain variables because of outliers or multicollinearity problems, please explain. Submit your report before the end of Week 10.Hint 1: Use attendance as the dependent variable. Select your independent variables carefully. Hint 2: If you include the days of the week and/or the months of the year as dependent variables, make sure you exclude one day of the week and one month of the year from your independent variables (if you do not do that you may run into problems with the full rank assumption; SPSS will automatically exclude any variables that will cause full rank problems, but it is better to exclude them yourself)

Walden University Importance of Relationships in GSS Dataset Discussion
For this Discussion, you will explore the relationship between these components and understand the trade-off between reducing risk in our confidence of estimates and increasing precision.
To prepare for this Discussion:
Review Chapters 6 and 7 of the Frankfort-Nachmias & Leon-Guerrero text and in Chapter 7, p. 188, consider Hispanic migration and earnings and focus on how different levels of confidence and sample size work together.
Review Magnusson’s web blog found in the Learning Resources to further your visualization and understanding of confidence intervals.
Use the Course Guide and Assignment Help found in this week’s Learning Resources to search for a quantitative article related to confidence intervals.
Using the SPSS software, General Social Survey dataset and choose a quantitative variable that interests you.
Using SPSS:
Take a random sample of 100.
Calculate the 95% confidence interval for the variable.
Calculate a 90% confidence interval.
Take another random sample of 400.
Calculate the 95% confidence interval for the variable.
Calculate a 90% confidence interval.
Post your results, the mean of Age to verify the dataset you used, and an explanation of how different levels of confidence and sample size affect the width of the confidence interval. Next, consider the statement, “Confidence intervals are underutilized” and explain what the implications might be of using or not using confidence intervals. Provide examples based on the results of your data. Also, use your research to support your findings.
