Dividing numbers with the same base (expressions):
Subtraction rule: When dividing the expressions with the same base, write the base one time with the exponent as the subtraction of the exponent of the expression in the denominator from the exponent of the expression in the numerator.
example: x^6/x^4 = x^(6-4) = x^2
To simplify this division:
x^6/x^4 = x*x*x*x*x*x/x*x*x*x = x*x = x^2
Also the exponent with a negative sign can be written in its reciprocal form with the positive exponent.
example: x^4/x^6 = x^(4-6) = x^(-2) = 1/x^2
