Question description

Cultural Diversity

  1. After reviewing the Week 7 Lecture, in your own words (don't copy from any source),what is cultural diversity?
  2. Many people try to apply the Golden Rule while interacting with others; "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." While this ethical code has been phrased in many ways (Links to an external site.) throughout history, our lecture suggests ignoring the Golden Rule when it comes to modern business. Some now assert the Platinum Rule (Links to an external site.) is better in a culturally diverse workplace; "Do unto others as they would have you do unto them." Which 'rule' do you feel would be most ethical in a multicultural workplace and why?
  3. What are some of the cultural issues that exist with regard to gift-giving in business?

BONUS QUESTION

This week we are discussing gift giving in a work setting. At my current place of employment (my full time job) there is a policy against giving money as a reward for achieving a goal. However, rewards such as lunch, pedicures (yes I work on a team of all women), and even a purse have been given when reaching a goal. Why do you think there is a policy against monetary rewards? Do you see it as the same as giving money?

BONUS QUESTION

View the following website. It shows what languages are spoken in the US. You can change the language by clicking on the drop box and choosing another language.

Choose a language. Write a few sentences about which one you picked and what you found surprising about this map. What does it tell you in terms of communication in the US?
