Exact task:

Hypothetical Situation

Format: Complete sentences. 3 Paragraphs - intro, body, conclusion. Summarize. Be short sweet and to the point. Pretend like you are addressing a crowd of 14 and 15 year old high school students, and you only have a few minutes to keep and hold their attention. Write in the first person as if you are the President of the United States.

Character: "Honest Abe"

Time period: Post-Civil War / Reconstruction

Task: Create a plan for Reconstruction that appeals to both Democrats and Republicans, slave owners and abolitionists. Your plan must address the topics of Southern secession and slavery, the economic hardships/conditions the South faced, punishments, pardons, forgiveness, and future loyalty and cooperation from both the North and the South. (ie. How do you ensure the Southern states don't repeat their same mistakes?).

Resources: starting on page 354 of your text book, use the information presented to formulate the optimal plan for Reconstruction. You may use bits and pieces from the various plans you see to formulate your own solution to our once divided nation.
