Assignment 2: RA 2: Effective Consulting Research Methods Report

Must be familiar with performing multiple regressions, please view attachments

Description of RA 2:

For this assignment, you are to review the scenario below and develop an 8- to 10-page report following the directions below. Please watch the video Computing a Multiple Regression to refresh your memory. Please note that you are not expected to use the program depicted in the video or write in the language described in the video.

Scenario:

You have been contracted by a company to hire the next chief executive officer (CEO). The company has given you ten potential candidates for the position of chief executive officer (CEO), but it wants you to first gather data on the executives to help determine the best candidate. The candidates have been engaged in coaching and have also taken an emotional intelligence (EI) test. You suspect that variables such as years of experience as an executive, months of coaching, and years of education will all contribute to the scores on the emotional intelligence (EI) test, as well as the success of the right candidate. In this case, the higher the emotional intelligence (EI) score, the better. More business experience, higher education, more months with a coach, and higher emotional intelligence (EI) test scores indicate the better candidates. We are assuming the company has offered coaching in the past. The data of the emotional intelligence (EI) test conducted on the candidates is given in the table below:

Directions:

Using any research methods textbook that you may have and at least five additional scholarly sources from the Argosy University online library (regarding multiple regression and multiple predictor variables), create an 8- to 10-page report for company leadership. Complete the following to include in the report:

  • Perform a multiple regression analysis. On the basis of the results and the scholarly literature regarding predictors of chief executive officer's (CEO's) performance, recommend the best candidate and justified your choice.
  • Describe the statistical analyses used and the multiple regression that is best suited for this type of measurement.
  • Determine the best predictors of the emotional intelligence (EI) test scores.
  • Identify other external variables that could influence one's choice and explained why.
  • Offer additional recommendations in regard to the variables used and your findings.
  • Identify any ethical and diversity issues that may affect the selection process.

Your final product will be in a Microsoft Word document approximately eight to ten pages in length. Utilize at least five scholarly sources in your research. Your paper should be written in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrate ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources; and display accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

All written assignments and responses should follow APA rules for attributing sources.

Submission Details:

  • Save your document as AU_IO6440_M5_A2_Lastname_Firstname.doc.
  • By Tuesday, August 18, 2015, deliver your assignment to the M5 Assignment 2 RA 2 Dropbox.

Good evening class, As promised here are the outputs for the data set for RA-2. I have copied and pasted the SPSS analysis. Please note, it is up to you to interpret the results and write them according to APA format. However, I will give you some tips about the how the analysis was completed and the results. Multiple regression is a statistical analysis that compares how independent variables affect the dependent variable. In this scenario, I chose emotional intelligence as the dependent variable. The independent variables are years of education, work experience, and months of coaching. We do not have a lot of information, but we will assume that the parties involved believe that higher emotional intelligence predicts better leaders. Check out the research. I have also attached the link to http://www.galileo.usg.edu/ . The password is feast. So I entered the data into SPSS. n=10 which is a small data set. The first test I ran was frequencies. Statistics YrsExperience EducationLevel MosInCoaching 10 10 10 10 0 0 0 0 Mean 12.1000 1.9000 6.9000 81.0000 Std. Deviation Variance Range Sum a. Multiple modes exist. The smallest value is shown I ran a hierarchical multiple regression tests. It depicts the following results. I also ran the test backwards with similar or identical results. For the sake of simplicity, I will attach the most relevant results. I have the full tests results however, they are 28 pages long. I have also attached a couple of links that may help you (quickly) interpret the data. https://www.moresteam.com/toolbox/regression-analysis.cfm http://www.biddle.com/documents/bcg_comp_chapter4.pdf Please note that everyone may run tests differently. Sample size has an profound effect on your results. The larger the sample size the better we can make predictions. Unfortunately, we have a small sample size with which to interpret our results. As you can see from the following outputs, years of experience and education level is your best predictor of emotional intelligence. Ironically, months of coaching was correlated with less emotional intelligence. This can indicate several propositions. These tests were also ran as one-tailed tests with a 95% confidence interval. One, the test was ran incorrectly (although I ran it several times, different ways) and is flawed. In essence, no test is 100% perfect. 2nd is that the coaching that these participants were exposed to was flawed, and 3rd perhaps the coaching was engineered to reduce emotional intelligence. All correlations were negative. Overall, there were no exciting significance factors. However, the research does not fully corroborate these findings. Regardless, I wish everyone luck. As I have said in my email, this is a statistics problem. Use your APA manuals. However, if you have had no exposure to stats and have difficulty doing algebra, this may be a difficult assignment for you. Good luck! Descriptive Statistics Mean EIScore Std.
