I need help establishing a stronger thesis for my AP English essay. The prompt states: "From talk radio to television shows, from popular magazines to web blogs, ordinary citizens, political figures, and entertainers express their opinions on a wide range of topics. Are these opinions worthwhile? Does the expression of such opinions foster democratic values?... Write an essay in which you take a position on the value of such public statements of opinion, supporting your view with appropriate evidence."
I have taken the point of view that yes, these opinions do support the development of democratic values, as long as the opinions are educated. I plan on supporting my view with three pieces of evidence. 1) i'm planning on using evidence from a book we read in class that i have not found any quotes in yet. 2) When people i know talk about current events via social media or other forms of communication it helps me understand the situation better, therefore helping me develop more views on democratic values. 3) political debates on many different news stations help give me and other people a variety of standpoints over certain issues or topics and this lets people become educated about whatever the subject is
With all of that background on what my essay is about, my thesis as of now is: In order to maintain an understanding of democratic values, it is necessary to communicate our opinions via a wide variety of sources.
I'm not completely sure if the evidence i have thus far will help support my thesis and i'm not sure if that is a very strong thesis.
