Question description

I know most people will write about the BIG technological advances, but I believe that the small ones made a big impact also. For instance, bicycles. These were I'm sure cheaper than a car and aloud you to speed in and out of the cities. For a working person, the bicycle could make getting to and from their factory job so much easier, faster, and less tiring. Also, along with bicycles came typewriters, cameras, and sewing machines. To me personally, these could make a huge difference!   Sewing machines could help create work for women, which would help bring in money. Cameras would help the newspapers and things like that. I would imagine there were photographers back then just as there is today and the rich families would have their pictures taken. Since wages were so low for everyone these little technological advances would cater to the more wealthier people that could afford it. Most of the families members were required to work just to make ends meet. Even younger children would get jobs in factories. Back then, there were no safety requirements or age limits, so you can imagine the danger. Even though the labor unions did try to protest and create better working conditions, they only ended up losing their jobs to the immigrants that were willing to work in any condition. We saw a big advance in medical practices too! That has to be the most important because it was to help save peoples lives. Making huge strides in medicine is what began our start to finding ways to cure people. The discovery of the germ theory of disease was probably one of the biggest medical advances during this time.
