Apply the basics of BPM notation (BPMN) to diagram an existing process (as-is state)

Analyze the output and consider options for improving the business process

Redo the process chart with your suggestions (to-be state)

See BPMN materials linked to this assignment, and note that “dash lines” represent process flows that are digitized; your task is to model the existing scenario, the “as is” state, and then present an improved process flow in a “to be” scenario.

You may use any software that will let you work with shapes, and either save or export your output for pasting into a Word doc. Options include: Word, PowerPoint, LucidChart – part of GoogleApps, Visio, or other tool of your choice.


Two-page Word doc with as-is and to-be process diagrams and a short paragraph for each diagram explaining first, what you observed about the initial process flow, and then your suggested improvements. Single-spaced, 12 pt font, block paragraphs (double space between paragraphs, no indent). Outside sources optional.

BPM Grading Rubric: Short form Rubric using criteria of Content, Convention, and Organization.
