Catholic University of America Tell me How it Ends Proposal Paper
1-You should use Valeria Luiselli, Tell me how it ends book as a recourse. You can find the book on Kindle. This proposal should be approximately ¾-1 page in length and should detail, in whatever form is appropriate (paragraph, outline etc.), your original thoughts about what you would like to write about in the text. It should include some specific ideas about what theme you want to discuss, what specific idea about that theme you think Luiselli depicts in the text, and some specific passages, moments, characters in the text. These elements are required, and you should spend time thinking about these things in preparation for the proposal workshop.Your proposal must state the theme you plan to work with, not the topic. It should make clear what idea, angle, argument about the topic you feel the text presents. It should also be focused enough that you can cover the idea effectively in 3-4 pages. This exercise today will help you move from a topic to a theme.Your statement of the text’s theme might work as your thesis statement. Remember that at this point it is a working thesis statement. It might change as your draft evolves and your understanding of the text changes. We write to learn and we learn as we write, so expect your thoughts about your theme/thesis to change as you gather evidence and put your essay together.Your proposal must include specific quotes, passages, moments from the text—you can list these (include page numbers!) or discuss them in paragraph format. Either way, you should make clear their significance/ connection to the theme. [We will talk next class about how to cite your evidence using MLA style.]Your proposal does not have to be a polished, perfect prose. It should be readable since you will be sharing it with your classmates, but you can save the fine-tuning (editing) for a later stage of the writing process. What you are bringing to class is a rough sketch of your ideas for the essay, so it is necessarily a work in progress. The more thought and effort you put into the proposal, the more of a head start you’ll have when it comes time to draft the essay. Also, the more detailed your proposal, the more feedback your classmates will be able to give you.2- Write a 2-3 pages draft about a topic of your choice and a the theme you chose in your proposal.
