A trademark is "a recognizable sign, design, or expression which identifies products or services of a particular source from those of others" [1]. In the United States, the symbol ™ is used to denote unregistered trademarks, and the symbol ®  is used to denote registered trademarks. In the US, this registration is at  the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, which is abbreviated as USPTO, or simply PTO. A trademark allows a corporation to differentiate itself in a market and to successfully protect those symbols that identify the corporation. This registration allows corporation and also individuals to protect their rights. If their rights are violated, they can file trademark infringement, and potentially participate in other type lawsuits.
