Description
- The IMF and World Bank are the world’s two leading lending institutions, but much of their monetary assistance disappears once it enters the banking systems of developing countries. Cite concrete evidence that supports the assertion that much assistance to developing countries is simply stolen by officials. Determine other main factors that account for the misuse of these funds. Consider arguments for and against lending to developing countries by the IMF and the World Bank.

History Article
Historians love to review the works of other historians. Whenever a new history book is written, the historical profession selects experts in particular fields of studies to determine the value and contribution the new work will have on the academic discipline. Upon completion of the course’s reading, each student will be considered an expert and be required to read an academic article and submit a 2-page review (minimum). Students are encouraged to celebrate the author’s accomplishments, but also challenge anything that seems substandard. Style and creativity play a crucial role in the success of your review.

SOC103A Jansen Newman Institute Developing Social Policy Essay
Students are required to research and write a critical essay on a current government health policy of
their choice (examples can include a specific family policy, a workplace policy, an education policy,
a drug or alcohol policy etc.). Students should choose a specific policy and NOT discuss the broad
categories of policies.
The background discussion should include relevant theory and should address the rationale for the
policy and the way the policy was formulated and implemented.
Based on their knowledge and research about what social policy is meant to achieve and drawing on
wider research on policies in other jurisdictions, students should critically assess the successes and
failures of this policy. Finally, students should make recommendations that would allow this policy to
have more successful outcomes.
