Question description

A pediatric dentist wants to know if the candy that children eat during the holidays is causing more cavities.  He looks at dental records for 36 patients that have come in for bi-annual checkups and finds that the average number of cavities per child in the months after the holidays is 3.75 with a standard deviation of 1.3.  For the checkups that are six months away from holidays he finds that children have an average of 3.5 cavities with a standard deviation of 1.7.  The dentist is confident that the amount of cavities should increase, so use a two sided hypothesis test.  Use the null hypothesis of "The amount of cavities after eating holiday candy is the same as other times of the year."
