Chapter ( 7 ) homework assignment.
1. A- The ecological levels include:
❖ microsystem
❖ mesosystem
❖ exosystem
❖ macrosystem
❖ chronosystem
B-They are all connected because they talk about child development and the dynamic ever
changing nature of a person’s environment.
2. NO, I don’t think the idea of multilevel theory is more accurate reflection of the way
contribution factors affect behavior of life because they both made us aware of the impact
of early-childhood experiences on subsequent development, whether these experiences
are remember or not.
3. Similarity is that they both talk about complex set of systems of system and interacting
social layers that affect a child’s development.

Oedipus draft and final assessment
Remember those themes and motifs mentioned before you began reading? Now it is time to do something more with them.First we need to clarify the difference between a “theme” and a “motif,” as they do not mean the same thing. A theme is an idea about human nature, life, the world, that is developed over the course of a work of literature. You should be able to express a theme in a statement. A motif might be used to help develop a theme, but it is less an idea than a symbol. It is a reoccurring event, item, format, that connects elements of a story or can connect a text to other works of literature. For further definitions and examples of theme and motif, visit the Glossary of LiteraryTerms. Using the notes you took while reading Oedipus Rex, select two of the themes or motifs from the list to focus on in your essay. You might choose to explain how a motif helps to build one of the themes, or look at two themes and how they are developed through the play.Truth vs. the appearance of truth [theme]Blindness vs. vision (sometimes second sight) [motif]Curiosity vs. ignorance (sometimes willful) [theme]Knowledge vs. misunderstanding [motif]Fate and free will: do the gods dictate these awful deeds? [theme]Download and save the literary analysis outline handout and complete it before beginning to write your essay. Remember that you need a thesis statement in the introduction to establish the argument and focus of the essay.1- Download and save this instruction sheet for creating a literary analysis outline. Complete your own outline and submit for review before beginning the essay.2- Using the notes you took while reading Oedipus Rex, select two of the themes or motifs from the list to focus on in your 3 page essay. Twilight Zone Analysis
Twilight Zone AnalysisNow that you've had some practice using analyzing the monster genre, we're going to step outside of articles in our text book and analyze a social issue in a Twilight Zone episode. Choose an episode from the following list: “The Howling Man,” “Escape Clause,” “Eye of the Beholder,” “Will the Real Martian Please Stand Up,” “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet.” If you have an idea for a paper on an episode not on this list, please let me approve it at least two days prior. You can view these episodes on Netflix or on Amazon Prime (both of which come with 30 day free trials). Possible issues in these episodes may include (but are not limited to) beauty standards, greed/capitalism, fear of foreigners, cultural hysteria, or mental illness. For this paper, you do not need to site any source other than your chosen episode, but as with any textual analysis, you must support your thesis with evidence from the film itself. See "How Do Monsters Reflect Their Times?" presentation on Canvas. A successful essay should address the following questions:1. What is the episode doing?2. How is it doing it?3. Why is it doing it?4. Why does this matter?(2-3 pgs) Due Nov 13

UMUC Support Group Assignment Gender Issues Imaginary Support Group Report
Purpose: This activity assesses your comprehension of course materials.Guidelines: You have volunteered to mediate a support group for six participants who are dealing with some aspect of gender that has become a problem for them. Participants in your imaginary support group should have some difficulty in several problem areas mentioned in our modules.culture and history: describe cultural and historical influences on conceptions of gender and other forms of diversitygender differences: discuss research findings on gender differences and similarities in aggression, achievement, and communicationrelationships: identify gender issues in friendships and romantic relationshipsgender expectations: explain the impact of gender, gender role expectations, and gender stereotypes on work roles and physical and mental healthProblem Areas: Each member of your support group should express concerns that result from dealing with personal identity, as well as problems in relating to others. All of the members of your support group are dealing with different issues, but the common factor is that each is struggling with stereotypes—personal, familial, and social constructions of gender.Problem areas should include physical health, work and career goals, interpersonal relationships (friends, intimates), mental and emotional health, and family dynamics. Your group may be a men's or a women's group, or you may want to create a mixed group. No matter what, all cases must present problems that are relevant to both men and women. Your group members should be diverse in at least the categories of ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and age. You must define each participant's problem concisely and develop a dialogue among the group members to address each participant's key concerns.Your goal in this assignment is to show that you comprehend a wide range of gender issues and how these issues limit and/or damage an individual's life, work, and relationships. Consider both negative and positive stereotypes and outcomes.biography: For each group member, write a mini-biography and state the individual's problem related to gender identity. Refer to at least two of the problem areas above (two to four sentences). Here are two examples of biographies for members of a support group:Example 1: Mark is a 25-year-old male student who struggles with the masculinity expectations of his dad and peers and his choice of a career in dance. Stress shows in his depression and painful distance from his dad.Example 2: Marta is a 43-year-old single mother seeking a promotion at her law firm. She hears comments from family, friends, and colleagues that disparage her efforts to be a single mother and a high achiever. Marta's stress shows in her lack of patience and use of sarcasm to hide her anger.opening statement: Each member of your imagined group should make a simple opening statement to the other group members about why he or she is in the group and about his or her frustrations with gender expectations or gender identity. Without repeating the biographies, write opening statements for all the group members and a response from one or two members per statement with the perspective the responder might assume based on his or her own assigned problem. For example, a participant speaking from his or her experience might respond to another group member by saying, "I've lived my life to please everyone, and it never made me happy. I hope you find a way to be yourself, even when others disapprove."peer review articles and module resources: Locate a journal article relevant to each of the issues raised by the group members. Use the resources in your course modules and text to locate relevant supporting quotes for the responses received. You should have six articles and six quotes.dialogue: Continue the dialogue among your group members in the form of a dramatic script as the participants continue to respond to each other's problems. The discussion should aim for insight, respect, and understanding. Responses should not include sarcasm, spite, resentment, blame, or shame. Continue down the page, going back and forth among the group members. This is a short dialogue, and by the end of two to three pages, it should resolve with each participant having gained an insight that will be useful in helping to resolve the original problem. Statements by group members should offer insight to other members. This conversation does not need to be balanced. You can focus on only two or three of the group members' problems if you prefer. You have six personalities to use to help build awareness among group members and give feedback from diverse experiences.insight report summary: Your group has ended its first session. At the end of the dialogue, write a report that summarizes the final insights of the group members. Include at least one insight for each group member that demonstrates a realization about the original problem. The new awareness may come from you or from another group member. You should have a minimum of six insights.Grading RubricThis project is worth a maximum of 100 points. Your grade will be based on clarity and details specific to gender issues.
