A motorboat leave the east dock and heads west across the river with a constant speed of 7.4 m/s. The river flows south with a current of 2.3 m/s. What is the velocity of the boat relative to the bystander on the east dock? If the river 1.4 miles wide how long will it take the boat to get to the West Bank on its current heading? How far down stream from the east dock will the boat be carried by the time it reaches the west side of the river?
