Description

Course Project Situation:

You want to create Information Systems in accordance with SD&A Theory:

a) either for your OWN company, OR

b) you’ve been contracted by another non-CIS D&D company that would like to move into CIS area and several CIS to be designed, developed and actively used. Goal: You need to design, analyze, and develop several information systems and create several corporate documents.

Course Project: Required Activities and PPT Slides (a minimal list):

 Analysis:

1. Project’s Title 2. Mission Statement 3. Objective Statements (more than 5) 4. Competitive Strategies (more than 5) 5. List of Main Business Functions (at list 10) 6. List of Main Data Objects (Data Entities) (at least 10) 7. List of computer information systems needed for a company (at least 5) 8. Justification of a selected CIS to be designed and developed 9. A list of expected tangible benefits (in dollars) – at list 5 10. A list of expected intangible benefits – at least 5 Opt: Results of an Interview with a Manager/Owner/Client Opt: Results of an Interview with a System Developer Opt: Results of an Interview with a User

 Design (Baseline Project Plan):

11. Identified System requirements. Developed Structured System Requirements: - context diagram (with at least 10 data objects) - level-O DFD (with at least 10 data objects and 7 sub-functions) - level-1 DFDs (at least – 7 sub-sub-functions) 12. Identified System constraints (at least 3) 13. Best Alternative Design Strategy (Weighted Scores Method) for at least 3 alternatives 14. Cost-Benefits Analysis (Excel spreadsheet like Ex. 5) for at least 3 alternatives 15. Break-Even Analysis and Graphs for at least 3 alternatives 16. Project’s Timetable (Gantt Chart with at least 12-15 tasks) in Microsoft Project format 17. Project Feasibility Report (about 2 pages) 18. Conclusion (Remarks)

A Prototype of the Information System to be developed and demonstrated

1. Create a working prototype of a selected computer information system (for example, a database for inventory system, an ordering system with links to multiple databases, a payment system with links to various payment methods/tools, etc.) to be developed.

2. This prototype should have a friendly Graphic User Interface (GUI), probably with Dialogues.

3. This prototype (in case of a database) MUST include: - at least two (2) tables (for example, Customers and Orders, Products s and Vendors, etc.) - at least one (1) One-To-Many relationship (for example, one customer may make several orders) - at least 20 records on information per table (for example, at least 20 customers and at least 20 orders) - at least 18-20 fields per record (for example, customer's first name, last name, address, home phone, mobile phone, email, fax, etc.) - at least 3 different data types of information: a) strings (for example, first name and last name), b) numeric (for example, salary, age, etc.) c) calculated (for example, hourly rate, GPA, etc.). Again, in case of databases use Design Strategies and Forms.

4. Test the working prototype by yourself.
