Question description

A Penny for Your
Thoughts

You are to replicate a field
study conducted by Jeffrey Shaw and his colleagues. You are going to choose a
location (mall, church, grocery store, street corner, etc.) and have a ballot
box (jar, bag, etc.) with the sign “A penny for your thoughts.”  (You probably
can have two boxes (bags, jars, etc.) one for females and the other for males.)
You are going to pay a penny to 10 people at your selected location willing to
write down what he or she had just been thinking about. However, feel free to
ask more people if you so desire.  Please do not force anyone to participate.
Also, do not write the person’s name on the paper.

Your report should
include:

  1. Description of
    location

  2. Time of day asked
    question

  3. Summary of responses
    given

    1. You can look for common themes
      in responses

  4. Your
    observation/comments about

    1. those people who were not
willing to participate in your study

    2. of those who stopped to
participate, how many do you think provided an accurate, honest report of their
      thoughts
