The Black philosophers discussed in class are presenting a critique or counter-narrative of
specific philosophical problems within a certain historical context as part of the larger
philosophical tradition, but they are also responding to a conversation (discourse) within the
Black intellectual tradition, as well. In your estimation, why is this conversation (discourse)
within and beyond the Black experience significant to the larger presentation of philosophical
traditions and schools of thought? This conversation (discourse) can relate to a specific author/
philosopher and their presentation of philosophical ideas or it can directly relate to the overall
philosophical themes discussed in class (i.e. racism, education, etc.). INCLUDE THESE FOUR PHILOSOPHERS: MALCOLM X, W.E.B. DUBOIS,WILLIAM R. JONES,MARTIN LUTHER KING. Critically analyze and examine:
•How a specific philosopher addresses the philosophical problems within the Black
philosophical experience as it relates to the larger philosophical tradition. (Is there a Black
Philosophy? and if so, what makes it a Black philosophy and why is it necessary? How does
Black Philosophy relate to Black Studies?)
With this in mind:You must include at least Four Philosophers from class--The choice is yours.
1.Provide biographical information on the philosopher(s) under discussion to clearly establish
any academic or philosophical connections.
2.Present/introduce the basic philosophical concepts or thesis of the philosophers examined as it
relates to the Black experience and to the specific time period they were responding to.
3.Explain the placement of the works by African American philosophers discussed in class
within the African American philosophical tradition and the overall philosophical traditions (i.e.
schools of thought).
4.Explain and examine the conceptual problem(s) presented in a given philosopher’s arguments.
What is the author’s purpose/objective of presenting certain conceptual problems? (You choose
the philosopher, but be sure fully explain their arguments and the reason why YOU chose that
specific philosopher)
Overall, I am looking for a well thought-out, clearly articulated argument defending your
position of the above mentioned questions pertaining to the reasoning undergirding the
philosophical concepts and themes discussed in class and in the required text. PLEASE PROVIDE PLAGIARISM FREE WORK...

Representation and abstraction video discussion
Directions:You are invited to reflect on the nature of art and its fundamental principles. Here is a chance for you to think and write as an expert on art theory. Two types of art are offered for a debate: Representation versus Abstraction; and the idea of context is presented (the time and place in which the artwork was created). 1. Watch two video-talks:https://youtu.be/2aUFB9hQncQhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?t=198&v=8-5DTsl1V5k2. In the Discussion Forum Unit 1, write a three (3) paragraph minimum essay identifying which type of art (representational or abstract) is more appealing to you and why. In your opinion, what major quality constitutes Art? How important is context in appreciating and understanding an artwork?Listen attentively to the experts in the videos and learn from their informed discussion on how to analyze and critique a work of art. Build your text on the points they bring up in their talk and share your own take on the subject. Feel free to agree or disagree with them and your classmates but base your case on valid points and arguments.3. Then choose two art works from https://www.google.com/culturalinstitute/beta/. Click on the left menu bar.You may choose by clicking on the "Projects" or "Artists" from the left menu bar.4. Find an example of representational art and one abstract work. 5. List the a) name, b) artist, c) date and d) medium of the works. Please also copy and paste links to the art work (see tutorial on how to copy link). 6. Use these two works as examples in your essay to support your opinions and ideas about representation, abstraction and context in art. 7. Reply to at least two of your classmates. Your initial posting should be a minimum three (3) paragraphs in length, while your responses should be at least one (1) paragraph.

Substance Abuse in the Workplace Paper
The Department of Labor has released statistics on substance abuse in the workplace. Some of the findings include:The available data continue to indicate that substance abuse has a significant impact in the workplace, with costs estimated at over $100 billion annually. Data show that: Seventy-one percent of illegal drug users are employed. Alcoholism causes 500 million lost workdays each year. Drug and alcohol-related problems are one of the four top reasons for the rise in workplace violence.Of those who called the cocaine helpline, 75 percent reported using drugs on the job, 64 percent admitted drugs adversely affected their job performance, 44 percent sold drugs to other employees, and 18 percent had stolen from co-workers to support their drug habit. A study conducted by the Institute for Health Policy, Brandeis University, found substance abuse to be the number one health problem in the country, resulting in more deaths, illnesses, and disabilities than any other preventable health condition. What do you think is the best strategy for addressing the problem of substance abuse in the workplace? Justify your response.Criminal Behavior: A Psychological Approach Author: Curt Bartol, Anne BartolPublisher: Prentice HallEdition: 11thISBN: 978-0134163741

Prompt: Read the Mr. Stayner's Murder Trial article, found below, as well as other materials about the case that you might find online
For this week's discussion you are the expert witness (social worker with a background on early childhood development) Licensed Clinical Social Worker. You are providing a report to the court regarding how M. Stayner's early years and his brain development have impacted the person he is today. Please note you do not have to determine whether he is guilty or innocent, you are simply reporting to the court the impact his environment and his psychological issues have on who he became. This is an exercise in which you will articulate what you have learned about the brain. This exercise will demonstrate your understanding of this week's material.Your Tasks:Please submit one original post (400-500 words) and respond to at least one peer post (75-150 words). Cite the text when appropriate for the discussion prompt above. Cite at least two relevant peer-reviewed journal articles to achieve maximum points for this assignment. (Articles may be cited in either your initial posting or your responses to peers.) Be sure that you have addressed all parts of the required response. When you respond to peers, respond as if you were dialoguing with them, so be sure that your posts are related to their initial postings. Your posting needs to deepen the discussion by adding an additional perspective, sharing new information, or asking an additional question to get your colleague to think more critically about the issue - it should not be a new posting on your part that doesn't connect to the initial posting or a mere "I agree with everything you've said" statement.Prior to submitting your posts, check them for appropriate grammar, usage and spelling. In the field of social work it is important to be able to communicate effectively when writing as well as when speaking. Errors in these areas will result in a lower grade for your discussion posts.
