Help me understand this Algebra two problem... Traffic Engineering: On dry asphalt the distance d (in feet) needed for a car to stop is given by d = 0.05^2 +1.1s where s is the car's speed (in miles per hour).

a.) What speed limit should be posted on a road where drivers round a corner and have 80ft to come to a stop?

For a road covered with dry, packed snow, the formula for a car's stopping distance given above becomes d = 0.08s^2 + 1.1s. Show that, in snowy conditions, a driver cannot safely round the above corner when raveing at the calculated speed limit of 30 miles per hour.

b.) What is a safe speed limit if he road is covered with snow?
