In the United States, we are fortunate to have an abundant supply of food. However, this abundance is largely due to advances in agricultural technology, which have in turn created numerous concerns surrounding our food sources. Provide at least two modern examples of how the United States has increased its food production. Using at least two scholarly or reputable resources and your textbook, discuss how these changes have affected the environment, and what impact they have on food safety? As the population increases, demand for food also increases. In order to cope with increasing demand of food there is need to use modern technology. Various methods are available these days. Chemical fertilizers are used on farm to increase the nutrients level in soil, pesticides are used to kill the insects or pests which otherwise damages the crop. Artificial foggers are installed to provide moisture to crops in summers and winters. Herbicides are used to kill the weeds and develop nutrients in the soil. These changes have adversely affected our environment. The pesticides used on soil to kill the pests’ leads to decrease in nutrients. This is harmful for farmers working on the land, as the air they breathe in have pesticide content which has direct affect on heart. Overall it has positive impact on food safety. Because of fertilizers and pesticides, the crop nutrients have increased and damage to crop has decreased. With the use of artificial fogger, moisture environment is created for the sensitive crop, which enhances the crop production.
