Germinal Period: 1st 2 weeks of pregnancy. Zygote forms moves down the fallopian tubes. It then becomes a blastocyst and implants in the wall of the uterus.
Embryonic Period: Rapid cell division. The germ layers form. The blastocyst is now considered an embryo.
Fetal Period: Large increase in size. Maturation of body organs and systems.
Extra-embryonic membranes:
Yolk sac: consists of the endoderm and splanchnic mesoderm
Amnion: consists of the ectoderm and somatic mesoderm
The Chorio-Allantoic Membrane: consists of the ectoderm and somatic mesoderm
