1: Do you think we need shopping malls, why or why not? Regardless of your personal feelings about them, do you believe they serve any purpose or service to society, what service or why not?

Do you think we will continue to build them or because of technology, will they go away?

2: We may not need malls, but we do need schools, hospitals, offices and assisted living facilities. Choose one of these types of spaces to be moved into an abandoned mall?

Describe the advantages of using a mall for the new purpose – what are the disadvantages and why do you think this isn’t already an obvious answer? (For this question, use the attached photos for reference and if you would like, you can use Photoshop, Power Point or other means to alter the photos provided to illustrate your ideas visually. You can attach them for reference when you submit your assignment)

Question 3: Propose some ways to make the mall a more necessary part of our lives. (Based on mixing retail spaces we like with spaces we “need” under one roof) • How could malls be a place for education or gaining knowledge? • How could malls be places that promote health and health care for all ages? • What other types of businesses or workplaces could be housed with retail spaces?
