A great example is when preparing food while using a recipe:
Recipe requires 1 cup of uncooked rice - rice expands 3 fold during cooking. If I have 2 1/2 cups of cooked rice, I will need to know how much uncooked rice to add to get the appropriate amount. I would need to divide the volume of the cooked rice by 3.
2 1/2 divided by 3 = (5/2) / (3/1) = (5/6). I have (5/6) cup of uncooked rice, subtract that from 1. 1-(5/6) = (1/6) so I need 1/6th of a cup of uncooked rice to complete the recipe :).
