Question Description
For your Final Research Project, imagine that you have been asked by your colleagues in the field to present your research on urban development at an online conference. In your presentation, you will examine urban development from an anthropological perspective by comparing and contrasting two cities. This presentation will also be a great addition to your professional portfolio.
For this project, you will use the original city from your Week Three profile of your city and select one of the following options for the compare/contrast in your presentation:
- Compare/contrast your original city Mumbai city in India with an ancient city.For help with identifying an ancient city, explore the list ofsuggested ancient citiesto compare.
- Compare/contrast two time periods in the development of your original city Mumbai city in India .
- Compare/contrast your original city Mumbai city in India with a city in a different geographical area.
After you have selected your choice to compare/contrast and begin to construct your presentation, make sure to compose a thesis statement that identifies the two cities or time periods that you are going to compare/contrast and indicates that you are going to identify and explain the similarities and differences between the cities/time periods.
Next, evaluate how the two cities or time periods are similar or different in each of the areas below. Additionally, discuss what factors might account for these similarities and differences in each area.
- Origin and development of the cities.
Questions to consider:- How, when were the cities founded?
- Why were the cities founded? (Hint: Consider geographic location, trade routes, food and water supply, defense, etc.)
- If comparing two time periods, how has the city changed and developed over time?
- Impact of migration, globalization, and transnationalism.
Questions to consider:- How has migration, globalization, and/or transnationalism affected the development of the cities?
- Effects of class, gender, ethnicity, and power differentials.
Questions to consider:- How are social class, gender, ethnicity, or power differentials expressed in the culture of the cities?
- Who makes up the dominant and subordinate social groups?
- Marginalization by forces of power and economics.
Questions to consider:- What subordinate social groups are marginalized, and by what forces?
- What features of the economic or political system help keep these groups in a marginalized position?
- Write a research paper presenting your findings. The research paper must be eight pages in length.
Must include a title page or slide with the following:
- Title of paper
- Student’s name
- Course name and number
- Instructor’s name
- Date submitted
- Begin with an introduction that includes a succinct thesis statement that identifies the two cities or time periods that you are going to compare/contrast and indicates that you are going to identify and explain the similarities and differences between the cities/time periods.
- Must address the topic of the paper with critical thought.
- Must end with a conclusion that reaffirms your thesis.
- Must use at least 4 scholarly sources,
- Document all sources in APA style
- Include a separate reference page or slide, formatted according to APA style
