Science Meets Real Life
Whether you think of yourself as an up and coming scientist or not, you use science every day.
You will explore how you apply different aspects of science in your daily life in a two part project. In 1,000-words (minimum), discuss the following:
The Scientific Method
Each and every day, you are faced with having to make split-second decisions, and the need to solve random problems that you encounter. To reach those decisions and work those problems out you are subconsciously using the scientific method. Apply the steps of the Scientific Method to two situations that could occur in your everyday life. Use the scientific method in the first scenario provided below (Scenario 1: The Mysterious Rash) to solve the problem at hand.
Please come up with a second detailed scenario using the guidelines listed under "Scenario 2: The Case of the Faulty Appliance" (see below)
and apply the same steps in the scientific method to find a resolution.
For both scenarios, be sure to use terminology from the scientific method (hypothesis, experiment, etc.) while describing how you would address each problem.
Scenario 1 - The Mysterious Rash
You are enjoying a holiday video with your family, when you notice your child itching his arm and stomach. You check his skin and notice there are large circular raised patches of skin that resemble hives. Knowing that hives are usually the result of an allergic reaction, you begin to wonder what caused this annoying, but non-life threatening rash. Use the scientific method to evaluate the situation, make observations, ask questions, formulate hypotheses, and then test these hypotheses. Report the conclusions of your analysis and the course of action taken.

Scenario 2 - The Case of the Faulty ApplianceDevelop your own detailed problem and apply the scientific method to solve it. Your problem should be centered around an issue with an appliance at your home. You may choose any appliance and any problem. Please remember to include each explicit step of the scientific method in your analysis and to also report your results.
(This could be either a situation that you actually encountered, or you may also choose to use a fictitious scenario.
If it is a fictitious scenario, you may improvise as you wish in terms of the results of tests and analyses)
Your final project should be a minimum of 1,000-words written in APA style format. As always, be sure to provide appropriate citations, references,
and links to any information you use in this paper. Be sure to also avoid copying and pasting large sections of text from any given source.
