Question description

The following are a list of real signs that contain entertaining inconsistencies.

Review the sign and identify the inconsistency that is present.  Be specific.   What word or phrase causes the inconsistency?   Explain your response.

Example:   Notice in a church vestry:  Will the last person to leave please see that the perpetual light is extinguished.
Response:   The inconsistency here deals with the extinguishing of the perpetual light.   If it is perpetual, as stated,  the light would be eternal or everlasting.   By extinguishing the light, it cannot be perpetual.  Thus, this is an example of inconsistency.

Your turn:

1. Sign outside a disco: Smarts is the most exclusive disco in town. Everyone welcome.

2. Sign in a London department store: Bargain basement upstairs.

3. Sign on a repair shop door: We can repair anything. (Please knock hard on the door--the bell doesn't work).

4. Sign on school grounds: No trespassing without permission.

5. Sign in social services building: Illiterate? Write for free help today.
