Pittsburgh Bridges
Cross that bridge when you come to it could be very tiring in Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh had
rugged terrains of deep valleys, creeks and rivers before bridges were erected above the three
rivers (Expect to cross a lot of bridges if you visit pittsburgh). This state had isolated many residents.
The first European settlers in 1700s built wooden bridges to connect newly constructed roadways
and span the rivers and valleys. Now dozen or so bridges that pass over Allegheny and
Monongahela rivers which join downtown and its southern and northern neighborhoods, are just
a small fraction of bridges that crisscross the city. The question that has been going around over
the years is how many bridges exactly are there in Pittsburgh? A visiting professor at the
University of Pittsburgh who is a local author believes they are four hundred and forty-six
bridges, while the tourism board for the ancient Italian city which is known for its canal says
Pittsburgh has four hundred and forty-three bridges. If the professors believe holds it would put the
Steel City ahead of Venice.
The Bridges of Pittsburgh’s author Bob Regan, argues that Pittsburgh has the greatest
variety of bridges and which the most beautiful. Regan tries to bring forth the city’s attributes
