Analysis of “A view of the Bridge”

Introduction
Dialogue, movements, foreshadowing and stage directions, are critical in a play for
displaying imagery. Dialogue serves a variety of functions in a play; it reveals the characters’
beliefs and personalities, heightens tension, demonstrates characters’ roles and relationship with
each other and most importantly, it helps in the play advancement and theme development.
Foreshowing contributes to giving a warning or a projection of how events might turn out later in
the story (Crow 2011). Movements help to trace the stage and follow the position of characters in
relation to each other as actors shift their positions from one point of the stage to the next. On the

while signs and reactions actors demonstrate the actions or speeches of their counterparts. This
paper seeks to analyze the specific effect of foreshadowing, dialogue, stage directions and
movements in the passage “A view from the Bridge” as the author has demonstrated his prowess

Beatrice, Catherine, Marco, and Rodolpho).
The author has also utilized stage directions in the passage to portray the characters’
personalities before meeting them in ...
