In gas chromatography column, which gas will emerge from the column first ?

timer Asked: Nov 5th, 2016

Question description

You flow a gas mixture of NH3 (g), CH4 (g), and He (g) through a gas chromatography column with a polar solid phase. What is the order in which each gas will emerge from the column from first to last? Consider the Lewis structure of each gas molecule.

(I suppose NH3 will be the last to emerge because it's the most polar of the three and will stick to the column. So question is which one is more polar: He or CH4?)
