In how many ways can a committee of 5 people be chosen if there are 10 instructors and 20 students available for the selection and the requirement is for 2 instructors and 3 students on the committee?

Solution:

In committees order does not matter. 2 instructors and 3 students denotes multiplication because of the and. Look at the product of how to select 2 instructors from 10 and 3 students from 20.

=combin(10,,2)*combin(20,3) or use the method in your book or a calculator to find the answer.
