Michael Berube " ananlyze Dont summarize"

Sherman Alexie "The joy of reading and writing: Superman and Me"

What information goes in each Annotation Entry? 1. Begin with an MLA citation Tip: This MLA citation of the source is what would appear in an MLA Works Cited page. Alphabetize the entries for each perspective by author’s last name. 2. State the source’s main thesis Tip: Begin your annotation with a clear statement about the source’s primary thesis. Let your reader know what the essay or article argues overall before you summarize the parts related to your hashtag topic. 3. Summarize relevant parts of the source Tip: Summarize only the parts of the source that are relevant to your hashtag topic. Include information that will prove why the source fits in one of the two perspectives you've created. 4. Use direct quotations and/or paraphrasing in your summary Tip: Gear your summary towards a reader unfamiliar with the source.Include quotations and paraphrasing of specific key ideas from the source. Make sure not to commit “closest cliché syndrome” by being vague or overly general. Instead, refer to evidence from the article that illuminates the particular claims the source makes. *Cite page numbers in MLA format* Tip: Include parenthetical citations of the page number where direct quotations and paraphrasing come from. 5. Analyze the source Tip: Conclude your annotation entry with a few sentences analyzing why the evidence you’ve summarized shows that the source fits into its perspective. You can also add analysis in-between moments of summary, but make sure you conclude with a strong claim about why the source fits in its perspective. 6. Explain how and why this author is in direct conversation with any other authors in your Ann Bib. Tip: Referring to your summary and analysis, explain how this author is like other authors in your Ann Bib.
