Warehouse Layout Design
Warehousing Assignment
In the previous lecture you have seen a traditional warehouse
layout. But if you have actually seen a real-life warehouse, chances are
that it looked nothing like what I showed you. The layout of warehouses
have specific purposes and different designs can achieve the same
purpose.
Now it is your turn!In this assignment, I
will ask you to take the traditional design I showed you and change it -
for the better. You have to maintain all the areas that I included, but
are free to move them around as you wish.SEE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ATTACHEDReview criteriaYou will be evaluated on several aspects of your design:Did you submit a new warehouse design?Did you include all required features of the warehouse?Did you explain how your design improves on the traditional design we covered in the lecture?
Step-By-Step Assignment InstructionsAssignment Topic:You will have to submit your own improved warehouse design starting with the example I showed you in the lecture.
How to create your assignment:Before you begin, you will need to decide how you create the plans. My suggestion is to use a graphical program such as Google slides (free),
PowerPoint, Keynote, or Visio (if you are really serious). Or you can
simply draw it on a sheet of paper and take a picture of it.
How to submit:You will be required to
submit your assignment using an image file (jpg or png format). Make
sure to include all the parts of the warehouse I included in my example:
dock doorscase lot/ fast mover sectionbulk storage/ slow mover sectionflow rack/ broken cases sectionconveyor beltsorterpackaging stationstaging areaat least two miscellaneous areas (such as equipment storage and maintenance, and/or assembly, etc.)
There is no need to include additional technology or features.

When talking to someone who is different from you in cultural background, age, gender, and/or experience, write down what you could say to express your understanding of what you think the person means or intends to communicate. For example, you might say, "It seems like you are doing a lot of thinking about whether to continue in your current job. Is that right?" In another situation you might express, "I understand it is really a challenge to juggle all the things you are doing."2. Think of someone you experience as genuine. Write a description of what that person does that makes you think he/she is genuine. 3. Now think of someone you experience as insincere or not genuine. Write a description of what that person does that makes you think he/she is not genuine and share these thoughts with your classmates.must be 150 to 200 words to be considered substantive. Texas A & M University Columbus Instruments Once Successful Organization Case Study
Please use the text book reference only. Case Study 6.1: Columbus InstrumentsThis case is based on a true story of a once-successful organization that had allowed its project management practices to degenerate to the point where assignment to a project team was often a mark of disfavor and a sign of pending termination. The case involves issues of motivation, structural effects on projects, and project team staffing. It offers students an opportunity to see how, if left unchecked, certain behaviors by department heads and others in the organization can work counter to the desires to use project teams to improve organizational profitability and instead make them a dumping ground for malcontents and poor performers.QuestionsWhat are the implications of CIC’s approach to staffing project teams? Is the company using project teams as training grounds for talented fast-trackers, or as dumping grounds for poor performers? How would you advise the CEO to correct the problem? Where would you start?Discuss how issues of organizational structure and power played a role in the manner in which project management declined in effectiveness at CIC.
