Teams are a good way of approaching a task and it has been used to accomplish many
things since time immemorial but there is nothing that is conjured by a human being that doesn’t
have a fault. Team work has proven to give good results for example successful football teams
like European clubs, NBA teams like L.A Lakers etc. have embraced teamwork over
individualism to accomplish the great achievements they have accomplished. Teamwork
however can also smother a talented individual. An individual can be part of a team that is
wasting his/her skills because the other members are not as good or are not just working as hard
as he/she is (West, 2012). There are situations when we should embrace working as a team and
there are situations when individuality should be applied even in a team, there is that one or two
talented people who are critical to the success of the team without whom the team will not even
be confident in itself There are those players who inspire other players by being fit and on the
team because they know their potential and they would even let them help the team as individual
without feeling that that one person is being selfish. Teams can be made to perform better if the
appropriate measures are put in place by stakeholders in it. Below are strategies which can be
used to empower teams to increase productivity.
A good coach is critical to a team’s performance. A coach is the individual who has
overall control over the team. When it comes to business organizations, a manager is equivalent
to a coach. The head of a particular department is the departments coach. Organizations should
hire personnel who are competent and have shown a good past record in leading to lead their
various departments if they want to remain going concerns (West, 2012). . A manager who
encourages his juniors and makes them feel free to interact with him/her as if they were equal is
a manager who for sure will inspire hard work. Manger that are authoritative and make their
juniors feel like they are in the presence of the boss only inspire fear which is just hate that is
