The Hawaiian kingdom and the United States legislator have an agreement that either the citizens
of America or the subjects of the king of Hawaii both can travel in and out of either country
freely and they are subject to security and laws governing these countries. The United States was
the first country to recognize Hawaii as an independent state and during the Spanish-American
war, the united states navy used the Hawaii shores to launch war against the Spaniards at the
pacific ocean. Due to these strong historical relations, the Hawaiian people and people of
America enjoy a cordial relationship that has been forged over years.

What are the significant events in the groups’ history?

Major significant historical event include recognition of Hawaii as an independent state by
America that happened on December 19th 1842. Later, that is after seven years the two countries
signed a treaty of friendship, commerce and navigation and both ratified it, this was in august
24th, 1850. During the Spanish-American war of 1898, the United States navy used the
Hawaiian shores to attack the Spaniards.

Has this group been discriminated against?

The Hawaiians are not contended as they complain that the Americans soldier have overstayed
their visit. There are complains of prolonged military occupation who in as much came into aid
for the Hawaiian people at the point of need have refused to let go control to the Hawaiian

kingdom. The Hawaiian people feel they should be left to run their country as they see it fit and
the military commandant along the pacific should let them do so.

The Hawaiians are seen to be of less education or civilized enough to make decisions by
themselves. The United States government is seen to discriminate against and still the mentality
