Introduction
Personality studies involve a branch of psychology that deal with the differences in
people’s way of thinking, how they feel and their behavioral patterns. Although the study has a
broad perspective, the fundamental aspect of the study comprises of the differences in human
thinking and behavioral patterns. Many psychologists have come up with various theories to
define the concept of personality and each offers a unique perspective. In essence, personality
studies focus on the individual differences in addition to the manner in which the various
components of a person combine to form the overall personality characteristics of an individual.
The variation among individuals comes in various categories. Some of the prominent
psychologists who suggested distinctive personality theories include Sigmund Freud, Abraham
Maslow, Hans Eysenck, and Gordon Allport. Although psychologies proposed different theories
in understanding personality, three primary methods exist to study the same. The three major
methods of studying psychology include experimental design, case studies, and correlational
studies. This paper explores the theories of personality according to selected psychologists in
addition to evaluation the methods used to study personality.
Psychology is broad ad it involves many studies, including personality studies. The topic
of personality attracts attention, scrutiny, and criticisms from various psychologists, making it a
wide topic (McLeod, 2014). Most psychologists construct and investigate the major
psychological difference in individuals, especially in terms of their cognitive and behavioral
patterns. Owing to the dynamic nature of personality, the psychologists came up with different
approaches in an effort to understand how various traits define the personality of a person (Allen,
2015). The motivations, behaviors, environment, emotions, and cognition...
